North Shore Airfield Helicopters 10-2-2016

North Shore today was busy with lots of helicopter movements, mainly Hughes 300 and R 22  training flights.  But these two were a bit different.

Northland Emergency Services Trust's Sikorsky S 76A ZK-IAL arrived, now in new colours.

This helo is normally hangared at North Shore.

After refuelling it headed back to its hangar.

In for maintenance was a helicopter a long way from home - Ruggs Holdings Ltd's Hughes 369FF ZK-HUJ2 all the way from Greymouth.  The turbine was being run up and as I took the photo I thought how fast the rotor blades were going.  However I now see that it did not have rotor blades!

  1. Why would the Northland Emergency Services Trust's Helo be hangared at North Shore, when they are based in Whangarei?
